By John Killam, President and CEO, MassMEP

John Killam, President, MassMEP

On October 11, 2019, MassMEP presented our first Industry 4.0 Conference at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. We launched the beginning of the roadmap to Industry 4.0 with current partners Notch Above Consulting, Cybersaint, Machine Metrics, Spinnaker, and Axis New England. Each partner presented on the products and training they can deliver, followed by a Q&A from the audience. There were lots of good questions on workforce development, are we reinventing the wheel, how far behind are we, key benefits, and how quickly should we get started.

"As MassMEP moves into the journey of Industry 4.0, we’ve established strong relationships with industry experts that will help build the future of smart factories," said Tom Andrellos, MassMEP Director of Growth Services.

Topics discussed included:

  • Average machine utilization is at 28.7%

  • Real-time machine performance

  • Cobots and fixed automation

  • Cybersecurity creating an intersection between data confidentiality, integrity, and process availability

  • Digital transformation technology and how to do things bigger, faster, and cheaper

  • Creating growth and capturing value

Presentations from the sessions can be downloaded here.

Jack Healy Leadership Award
MassMEP, along with Speaker Robert DeLeo, also presented the 4th Annual Jack Healy Leadership Award to Chris Yard and his team at Mercury Wire. Mercury Wire receives this award in recognition of their "True North" initiative that emphasizes enhancing team development with "Be Curious, Show Respect, Engage All, Adapt & Sustain, and Go Further."
