Director of Operations/Operations Manager, Fancypants Baking Co., Walpole, MA.

Fancypants Baking Co. is a Boston-area cookie manufacturer and industry leader in baking healthier-for-you snacks using fresh, simple, non-GMO ingredients; we supply supermarkets, specialty food stores and online customers nationwide. We are currently seeking an experienced Director of Operations who is passionate about natural, hand-crafted products and who is committed to growth, high quality standards and leadership by example. 

Job Responsibilities

1. Oversee commercial bakery with departments including baking, decorating, packaging, shipping and receiving

  • Lead managers and staff to deliver and exceed performance metrics in areas of safety, quality, production, costs, and inventory management
  • Oversee coordination and scheduling of production to meet sales and marketing demand levels
  • Develop policies and procedures to improve bakery efficiencies
  • Assume 24/7 accountability for all aspects of production and facility management

2. Ensure compliance with all safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and company policies.

  • Perform production area walk-­throughs, investigate problem areas, and implement solutions
  • Lead 3rd party audit programs
  • Ensure bakery is inspection ready at all times
  • Ensure that all department adhere to cleanliness and operational standards
  • Set forth standards for safety
  • Ensure accident/loss prevention and security policies are followed

3. People Management

  • Be an active part of all human resource functions including hiring, training, and disciplining staff for all departments
  • Create a positive atmosphere where ongoing support and training is part of company culture
  • Conduct regular employee and team performance reviews
  • Review and approve employee timecards

4. Evaluate bakery performance, monitor expenses and resolve internal issues

  • Ensure all departments perform within budgeted operating standards
  • Maintain all production reporting related to inventory, ingredient usage, and labor
  • Maintain bakery equipment according to schedule and within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensure product meets customer specifications and expectations

Internal Communication
Meet and communicate regularly with Directors of sales, marketing and purchasing

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years in food or pharmaceutical production with significant management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing, warehousing and distribution
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership, coaching and creating a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Superior communication skills
  • Ability to think independently and problem solve
  • Desire to continuously grow and improve
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and business management systems

Additional Requirements
Requires strong working knowledge of:

  • Lean manufacturing and process improvements
  • Inventory control
  • Production scheduling
  • Team Building
