Senior Mechanical and Fluids Engineer, Kadant Solutions, Auburn, MA

Kadant Solutions, based in Auburn MA, a division of Kadant Inc. (NYSE:KAI), is a leading manufacturer of high value, critical accessory equipment and systems for paper making and other industrial processes. Its water management products are applied to the cleaning of forming and press fabrics and filtration of process water.

They are seeking a Senior Mechanical and Fluids Engineer (Water, Steam and Air) to develop new products, improve existing product designs and provide technical support for existing installations. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter with a combination of mechanical engineering and paper mill process experience. Technical competence, effective problem solving, teambuilding and innovative spirit are essential for success.

Reporting to the Research and Development Manager, key responsibilities include:

  • Developing cost effective concepts for new Waste Water Management products

  • Scheduling and leading design review meetings to discuss and evaluate proposed product designs

  • Reviewing and understanding project objectives, specifications and documentation; actively participating in establishing cost and time estimates and milestones, utilizing all available resources

  • Building prototype components and equipment utilizing in-house and outside resources; ordering materials and hardware and following-up to ensure on-time delivery

  • Managing all aspects of specific product development project, using analytical skills and software tools to simulate operation of equipment and systems

  • Collaborating with co-workers, customers, amd suppliers to ensure project objectives are met; working with continuous improvement mindset; striving to develop new methods and tools to ensure business growth and success

  • Assisting customers, sales, and applications engineers with equipment and application questions

  • Traveling to customer sites for presentations, to obtain project information and/or install, evaluate and test prototype equipment and components

  • Testing and troubleshooting  controls and mechanical systems before shipment

  • Observing safe practices and company policies

Requirements:

  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Paper Science preferred; Chemical Engineering degree with knowledge of pulp and paper processing acceptable; Equivalent combination of education and industry experience considered

  • Comprehensive knowledge of machine design and paper making required

  • Strong analytical, project management and organizational skills necessary

  • Experience with 3-D modeling (Solidworks or other) preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Willingness and capability to travel to provide technical support as issues arise, as well as commitment to work hours as needed to satisfy business commitments

  • US work authorization required; unable to sponsor employment at this time
