Manufacturing Engineer, Kadant Solutions, Auburn, MA

Kadant Solutions, based in Auburn MA, a division of Kadant Inc. (NYSE:KAI), is a leading manufacturer of high value, critical accessory equipment and systems for paper making and other processing industries. A leading supplier of doctor blades, holders and systems, its water management products are applied to cleaning of forming and press fabrics and filtration of process water.

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and improve manufacturing processes by studying and evaluating production and manufacturing methods. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter with a combination of mechanical engineering and  comprehensive manufacturing experience in process, costing, ‘make/buy’ decisions, milling, machining, drawing, tool design, reading ‘prints’ and utilizing an ERP system.

Requirements:

  • BSc ME or related degree with 5-10 years manufacturing experience, preferably in custom products, not high volume low mix operations

  • ERP system experience, Oracle or other tier I expertise highly preferred

  • Knowledge of fabrication through build, with experience in CAD, 3-D Solidworks, preferred, as well as CAD/CAM circuit design

  • Understanding of hardware specifications, manufacturing materials and procedures, product development and quality with continuous improvement mindset

  • Proven ability to deal with complexity and collaborate with others

  • Leadership talent and exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including presentation of technical data in understandable manner

  • US work authorization required; unable to sponsor employment at this time

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators and others

  • Developing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying and testing manufacturing equipment; consulting with vendors

  • Improving efficiencies by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements and equipment layout

  • Assuring process and product quality by designing test methods; conducting in-process and finished testing capabilities; establishing standards and confirming processes

  • Providing data and information about production, labor and material costing; reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements for key decision making

  • Preparing product and process reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information, answering requests and questions; maintaining and entering process and product data base and writing computer programs

  • Keeping equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following manufacturers’ instructions and procedures

  • Adhering to product and company reputation by complying with safety and government regulations

  • Maintaining and enhancing professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational programs and associations; reviewing professional publications and developing professional network
