Job Opportunity

Director of Quality, Watts Water Technologies, North Andover, MA

Provide internal & external direction and communication necessary to develop and sustain customer confidence in the organization’s quality performance. Activities include both proactive & reactive components of customer quality relationship management on behalf of the organization. Establish and oversee the direction of all aspects of the organization’s quality improvement efforts, such as developing and administering the quality system, training & coaching employees, and facilitating change throughout the organization. Responsible for establishing strategic plans, policies and procedures at all levels so quality improvement efforts will meet or exceed internal & external customers’ needs and expectations.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ownership of company’s quality processes and development of strategic quality, vision, mission, goals, and objectives in conjunction with the company’s strategic plan.
  • Create overall direction for consistent quality methodologies, processes, and procedures across all operations of the company.
  • Defining, setting, and delivering quality improvement initiatives with the supplier quality team leads that involve all elements of planning and execution of quality risk assessments.
  • Creating and delivering quality-focused initiatives around material and product qualification with SQA team.
  • Acting as the quality advocate inside and outside of the company.
  • Taking responsibility to ensure all locations have knowledgeable and effective management representatives to oversee continual improvement of quality system standards.
  • Realign resources to support a proactive approach to predict, prevent, and protect the company and its customers from quality performance issues.
  • Coordinate global responses to significant customer complaints and quality performance problems.
  • Maintain current customer and quality scorecards on intranet site for access by all company entities globally.
  • Drive improvement in reductions based on improved root-cause data, effective problem solving, and systemic analysis and improvement.
  • Participate in the company customer review process when it is conducted for major accounts.
  • Communicate best practices in achieving quality requirements.
  • Lead the global quality council of executives to improve the culture of quality within the organization.

Education, Experience, and Required Skills

  • Possess an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Business Management, preferably an advanced degree or MBA.
  • Possess certification in Lean Six Sigma at the Black Belt level or greater.
  • Possess a minimum 10-15 years of experience in quality roles or related manufacturing areas where a substantial understanding of company’s quality processes in design and manufacturing has been gained. Global experience is preferred.
  • Possess good leadership.
  • Possess excellent planning and project management skills.
  • Be able to Champion the needed elements of change.
  • Be able to harness the necessary resources to bring about change.
  • Be the voice of the customer while working to actively affect improvements necessary to exceed customer expectations.
  • Be professional, credible, and able to influence key regional owners and stakeholders around the world. As a result, cross-cultural sensitivity and acceptability is essential.
  • Possess analytical and creative thinking, independent judgment, and the ability to present information and ideas clearly and concisely.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
Work in manufacturing and office environments.

Other Job Requirements

  • Travel typically 10%, but can have periods of 50%, e.g. coordinating the transition of product lines from other Watts manufacturing sites
  • As required by the American Disabilities Act (ADA)
