Senior Buyer, Savage Arms, Westfield, MA

We are seeking two Senior Buyers to add to our team. The senior buyer is responsible for the procurement of production material and capital equipment. Duties include: sourcing vendors, vendor evaluation, price negotiations, purchasing, maintenance of the MRP system, and other similar duties primarily those pertaining to purchasing functions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain authorized vendor listing. Source new vendors to fill requirements for such as raw materials, purchased parts/components, and capital equipment. Prepare and forward quote requests. Work with engineering, production and quality personnel to qualify vendors as authorized suppliers. Evaluate current vendors for price, service, delivery, and other performance issues. Make recommendations to drop vendors based on performance criteria. Analyze vendor quotes, proposals for service, etc. and make recommendations to include on authorized list.
  • Purchase production material which includes raw materials and purchased (pre-manufactured) parts. Utilize the MRP system to analyze inventory levels, KanBan quantities, lead times, orders, etc. to determine purchase needs. Place orders with vendors to meet Just-in-Time criteria. Work with the appropriate personnel to spec., source, and purchase capital equipment.
  • Maintain and update the MRP system. Analyze optimum levels of materials, parts, components; re-order points;. as well as lead times for materials. Determine the lowest optimum level of inventory to maintains to achieve JIT standards. Analyze materials costs to achieve maximum cost savings. Update data in the system to establish re-order points, KanBan quantities, to ensure proper coding, tying items to vendors, etc. Prepare a variety of reports and/or analyses and forward to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain an effective liaison with vendors. Work with vendors to resolve out of specification or other no conforming materials issues or problems. Negotiate price, service, delivery, lead time and/or other service factors with vendors. Work with vendors to develop or establish agreements for such as blanket orders, lead times, consignment orders, etc.

Perform other similar duties required by responsibility or necessity or as requested by supervisor.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • 7-10 years of progressive learning experience.
  • Demonstrated lean supply chain practices experience.
  • Procurement experience in a manufacturing industry.
  • 3 year minimum of negotiation experience.
  • Thorough understanding of technical standards, principles, theories, and techniques.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, project management and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to operate well with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to initiate/maintain relationships with vendors and customers

Additional Desired Requirements

  • Procurement specific certifications (CPP, CPPM, or CPPC)
  • Background in firearms manufacturing industry
