Manufacturing Engineer, Perkins Products, Watertown, MA.

The position of Manufacturing Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates the engineering aspects of new assistive technology products into production and provides manufacturing engineering support (including electro-mechanical) for Perkins Products manufacturing facility, including engineering support for overseas assembly operations. Provides support for the materials function and interacts with vendors, in addition to performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.

  • Provide direct engineering support and leadership for the introduction of new products into manufacturing including conferring with vendors, establishing quality standards, support for tooling and fixturing, and the development of efficient manufacturing methods and systems for mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic products.

  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

  • Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.

  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.

  • Support and provide some leadership in quality management systems, ISO-9001, and related product quality requirements.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience                                             
Bachelor Degree and 7+ years of experience in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Language Skills                                            
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills                                                  
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability                                                     
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills                                            
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Solidworks Design software, Solomon Inventory software, Solomon Manufacturing software, MS Project Project Management software, Excel Spreadsheet software, and Word Word Processing software.
