Students Receive MACWIC Level One Certificates of Competency
At the Worcester Chamber of Commerce Manufacturing Roundtable on January 8, 2013, five Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School students received their MACWIC Level One Certificates of Competency as part of the Applied Manufacturing Technology Certification Pathway.
Level One industry-proctored tests focus on Shop Math, Blueprint Reading, Metrology, Safety, and Work Readiness. Students must obtain an overall score of at least 85 to receive a certificate. Several other vocation technical high schools have signed up to have their students tested.
The Applied Manufacturing Technology Certification Pathway is an advanced manufacturing certification program that serves two main purposes. One is to add value and merit to the industry to encourage individuals to consider careers in advanced manufacturing. The second is to create a standard instruction set and evaluation process (which is continuously improved) so that employers readily understand the skill set of an applicant, therefore reducing the cost of hire.
