7th ICAD at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, June 26-28, 2013

The 7th International Conference on Axiomatic Design (ICAD) will be hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, June 26-28, 2013. The themes of the conference this year include the design of complex systems and the application of Axiomatic Design (AD) for innovation of new products, systems, and processes.

The introduction of many industrial products, ranging from airplanes to software, is being delayed, and even after delivery they encounter many problems. Axiomatic Design (AD) is an elegant, yet practical, rational, top-down, method for engineering design. AD reduces the cost and time for development of new, reliable systems and products. Additionally, AD automatically documents the design intent for each component of the solution. By maximizing the degree of independence and minimizing information content, AD selects the most robust and controllable design solutions.

Wednesday, June 26, the conference starts with a full day of tutorials. Advanced tracks include tutorials by top international practitioners and scholars. For those with little or no previous AD experience, there is an introductory track, which helps prepare participants to appreciate the following two days of technical sessions. The technical sessions include talks, posters, and panel discussions. These cover applications in many fields, case studies, and recent theoretical developments.

Keynote presenters include Nam P. Suh, the honorary co-chair, who started Axiomatic Design at MIT in the 1970s.

ICAD provides an international forum every two years for those interested in developing, applying, and teaching AD. Attendees will learn about AD theory; exchange ideas about the advancement, application, and teaching of AD; and share best practices about AD in industry, academia, and government.

Register online at ICAD.
