College Consortium Launches Local Buying Initiative
Area purveyors of goods and services who want to do business with member institutions of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc. have a new vehicle to reach purchasers on college campuses. The Consortium has established an online database where Worcester County businesses can submit information about their products and services. The database will be promoted on the 13 campuses as a quick guide to local vendors. (The total annual expenditures by the colleges exceed $850 million). The form can be found online at http://www.cowc.org/buyhire.html.
The resulting Worcester County Vendor Database will be accessible to faculty and staff at Consortium member institutions and will be promoted through purchasing offices and administrative and academic units. The database also provides contact information for the businesses included in it.
The Colleges of Worcester Consortium is a 39-year old alliance of area colleges that seeks to broaden and enrich academic programs, share selected administrative services, and expand community service. Member institutions are: Anna Maria College, Assumption College, Atlantic Union College, Becker College, Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Quinsigamond Community College, Nichols College, Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Worcester State College.
