This is a depression and many of us are depressed. The thesis that manufacturers should be looking forward when the very largest companies, surely equipped with all the fancy methodologies, are going belly-up, and are constrained to look no further than the end of the next quarter…well, it’s just a comfortable fiction. Most of us are not hoping to ‘reset’ anything; we’re just hoping to scrape by until the new business landscape reveals itself enough to be addressed. What that landscape looks like is not clear to anyone, least of all sources of capital — they’re not saying ‘reset,’ they’re saying ‘quit.’
