East Penn Manufacturing and Nuvera Fuel Cells Provide 20 ReadyPower Units for Forklift Demonstration

East Penn Manufacturing and Nuvera Fuel Cells have successfully deployed 20 ReadyPowerâ„¢ units to the Susquehanna Defense Distribution Supply Depot (DDSP) in New Cumberland, PA. The fuel cell/battery hybrid units have been installed into 20 Yale forklift trucks as part of a 2 year demonstration project run by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).  The ReadyPower units will be run at the DDSP in regular operation consisting of 2 shifts a day, five days a week, and will be compared to the performance that would have been attained using standard motive batteries.

DLA provides logistical support for the Department of Defense (DOD), and has committed to being an early adopter and principal demonstrator of fuel cell technologies with the goals of exercising the supply chain, testing the units in real world conditions and providing feedback to fuel cell providers.

ReadyPower is a hybrid pack consisting of a fuel cell power module, AGM batteries, and a compressed hydrogen fuel storage system. ReadyPower is completely interchangeable with standard lead-acid forklift batteries, and is a high-powered, time-saving, cost-effective alternative for the right motive power application.

Nuvera Fuel Cells is a global leader in the development of fuel cell systems and fuel processors for both end-users and OEMs. With offices located in the US and Europe, Nuvera provides clean, safe, and efficient products for industrial vehicles and equipment in addition to furthering the development of power systems for automotive and transportation applications.

East Penn Manufacturing is a leading manufacturer of high quality lead-acid batteries and accessories for the automotive, telecommunications, UPS, commercial, marine, and motive power markets. The company’s quality and environmental systems for its entire 520-acre complex have been certified to ISO 9001:2000, ISO/TS 16949:2002, and ISO 14001:2004 requirements.
