Job Opening: Director of Workforce Solutions Group, Brighton, MA
The Director of the Workforce Solutions Group (WSG) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a broad, statewide coalition including business, organized labor, and community based organizations. The Director is charged with implementing the work plan established by the Executive Team, which consists of members of the Crittenton Women’s Union, Mass. Workforce Board Association, Mass. Communities Action Network, and Mass. AFL-CIO.
The Workforce Solutions Group advocates for an effective workforce system that increases workers’ skills, advances families to self-sufficiency, and promotes job creation and economic growth.
Primary Requirements:
Strategy: Responsible for leading the strategic development process and providing leadership to make WSG the leading voice in Massachusetts advocating for workforce development
Organizing: Sharing information with, building consensus among, mobilizing and engaging WSG’s allies around the state (includes organizing regional meetings and meetings of the statewide partners groups, drafting action alerts, organizing for hearings, and writing e-newsletter);
Administration: Managing WSG’s day-to-day operations, ensuring that obligations are met and goals are achieved (includes chairing executive team meetings, writing reports to funders, managing the budget, coordinating Executive Team activities, drafting work plans).
Advocacy: Advancing WSG priorities in the State Legislature and Administration (includes meeting with legislators and government officials, drafting letters, attending open public meetings, managing relationship with WSG lobbyist);
Media and Messaging: Crafting campaign messages and looking for opportunities to disseminate them (includes managing the relationship with media consultants, collaborating with consultants on press releases, story ideas, op-eds and letters to the editor, speaking with reporters in some circumstances).
Research: Working with the Executive Team to identify and disseminate research that will advance WSG priorities (includes working with contractors to make research accessible to key audience, developing research strategy, managing distribution of research).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with legislative process
Strong writing and public speaking skills
Ability to build consensus
Experience working with media
Comfort working independently
Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience with administration and budgeting
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience working with legislative bodies and community organizing
Familiarity with workforce development
