Successful Implementations in Lean

O.R.M. Incorporated Invests in Lean Training

O.R.M. Incorporated is beginning its Lean Journey in order to remain a competitive leader in a fast-moving, ever-changing market that demands flexibility, operational excellence, and continuous improvement with the assistance of a Workforce Training Grant funded through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Economic Development.

Training in Lean principles, including Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events, provides O.R.M. the opportunity to increase production capacity, reduce inventory, increase quality, and impact their bottom line. Lean principles are a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value added activities) through continuous improvement by producing the product at the pull of the customer in pursuit of perfection. Lean principles work towards the creation of standardized work and encourages a company to cross-train their employees on the road to continuous improvement for the employees and the company.

"One of our goals with the Lean training is to empower the employees and allow them to make changes to the production floor," said Peter Ormondroyd, Vice President.  "With this training, they will learn the structure of lean and become an integral part of its present and future implementation."

"At O.R.M., we believe that the implementation of the Lean program will add value not only to our current process but to the overall fiscal bottom line," stated Susan Ormondroyd, President.

"We chose MassMEP as our provider because we liked the performance-based training methodology utilized by the company and the knowledge instilled in our employees to continue down the Lean journey once the grant is completed," said Ms. Ormondroyd.  "Our employees directly experience the immediate and dramatic impact of the transformation process.  In turn, they can immediately apply the principles learned during the training to their work environment."

MassMEP, along with Commonwealth Corporation, worked with O.R.M. during their grant application process. As part of the grant application process, O.R.M. met with MassMEP several times prior to their completing the application and had the Commonwealth Corporation Applicant Assistance program review the application prior to submission. O.R.M. found MassMEP and Commonwealth Corporation to be extremely helpful during their application process.

Once notification was received by the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund, O.R.M. met with the Workforce Training Fund to finalize the grant paperwork and is looking forward to continuing their Lean journey.

O.R.M., Incorporated is an Electronics Manufacturing Services company providing a full range of manufacturing systems development from design/prototype through to final assembly/integration.
