In only 17 months, the Mobile Outreach Skills Training (M.O.S.T.) program has trained 300 machine operators, many from the hard to serve population. Most of those trained have entered the workforce in good paying positions with "a livable wage," including benefits and the potential for a long-term career with future growth opportunities.
"If you’re looking for a chemical engineer, there’s a big pool. If you want a skilled machinist, it’s tough," said Randy Putnam, president of Specialty Silicone Products Inc. in Ballston Spa is quoted recently in the Business Review. The MassMEP M.O.S.T. program addresses the demand for skilled machinists.
The new initiative will continue with training of CNC machine operators and will have an expanded curriculum to address the need for assemblers, quality inspectors, and other related entry-level manufacturing occupations. This expanded curriculum can benefit a wide range of manufacturing companies.
