Perkins Products / Howe Press is a leading manufacturer and distributor of products for the blind and visually impaired. Our Perkins Brailler, a mechanical braille writing device has been the leading selling product for the blind since its initial introduction in 1951. Perkins Products is part of Perkins School for the Blind, the first school for the blind chartered in the United States in 1829. For over 175 years, the staff at Perkins have been providing quality services to students and clients who are blind, visually impaired, deafblind, and multi-impaired.
The Senior Planning & Procurement Specialist supervises and coordinates planning, production control, and purchasing activities of Perkins Products/Howe Press and engages in expediting flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between departments of Howe Press and partner assembly plants.
Responsibilities
Evaluates written data such as job orders, product specifications and operations sheets, parts and materials inventory lists, and machine and worker production rates, to establish efficient allocation and scheduling of parts, materials, machines, and sequences of operations and workflow. Implements and maintains Solomon business systems to include purchasing, inventory control, and shipping activities. Confers with production personnel to resolve problems affecting production schedules. Reviews requisitions and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, delivery schedule, and quality. Selects products for purchasing by testing, observing, or examining items. Maintains procurement records, reviews bid proposals, and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority. Explores new and alternative means of sourcing including international vendors. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS. Five (5) years of related work experience and expertise as a Buyer, Production Scheduler, or Supervisor. Direct experience in implementation and use of manufacturing and inventory control software such as Solomon or equivalent. Direct experience in purchasing mechanical and electro-mechanical components and working with vendors and quality systems a plus. Must have industrial and/or consumer products experience, solid communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work creatively, both independently and as a project team member to generate unique solutions to purchasing and production planning challenges.
Preference may be given to candidates havingCertificates, Licenses, Registrations in APICS and Demand Flow Technology Certification.
Available Schedule Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
