For the past 20 years, New England has seen an economy changed by constant consolidations, whether it be retailers, banks, food chains, or manufacturers. There is probably not one town in all of New England that has not seen the demise of one or more locally owned manufacturers who have been an irreplaceable source of goodwill for the community.
This was recently brought home to the Worcester community with the passing of Paul Kervick, Chairman of Kervick Enterprises. Paul, along with his son Robert, built a unique company whose character, as described in the attached article, was based on goodwill. In fact, goodwill was so embedded in the company that both customers and employees worked on the company’s behalf. Read this incredible story and realize that not all industry consolidations are progressive.
